Kinja'd!!!

My home town! Home of the world’s largest naval base. That was a fun place to grow up, with all the Navy hardware and Navy jets flying around.

Must be, I don’t know what else would be on there that would be painted black.

The historian in me gives a shout out to the USS Constellation , one of the Original Six (not a hockey team) frigates, the first U.S. Navy vessel to put to sea and the first U.S. Navy vessel to engage and defeat an enemy ship when she engaged and defeated the French frigate L’Insurgente in 1799 during the Quasi-War .

The closer I look, the more it looks like a Hornet. The vertical stabilizers are canted.

I never knew where the word ‘corvette’ came from until I got into naval history.

I'm always willing to celebrate a long line of hot seamen.

It’s probably the Dud.

it’s a shell of a bird that is used for practice. moving, firefighting, rescue, etc.

That makes much more sense. Thank you. Hadn’t even thought of that.

ours was painted robins egg blue. it’s great for firefighting, since they can just hose it down, and let it sit in the sun for a while, and it’s cleaner than it was before. there’s no electronics to have to worry about damaging.

I’ve seen the old A-6 they use at NAS Whidbey but it might be gone now.
